VIN Number - Year Codes
The VIN Year digit is encoded at position 10. Letters U and Z and the numerical digit 0 are not used for VIN year codes.

The year 1980 has been encoded by most auto manufacturers, as character "A".

The years following 1980 increment through the allowed letters, where "Y" represents the year 2000. 2001 through 2009 are encoded as the integer numbers 1 to 9, and subsequent years from 2010 are encoded as "A", "B", "C".
